This produce washer is a lot larger than I expected. Which is nice because I can wash more produce at a time but not so great if you dont have storage space. Luckily my kitchen does have storage space available.
There are 4 pieces to the cleaner. A cover, brush, strainer and a basin. All of them come apart from each other in order to clean them.
In my first batch of produce I had grapes, red and green, mandarin (cutie) oranges, lemons and apples. I filled the basin with water and a bit of vinegar and put one bag of red grapes in the gadget. All you do is turn the crank and the grapes are carried through the brush area kind of like a human going through a revolving door. After they have all gone through the brush area (just takes a few minutes) I took the cover off and pulled out the strainer and rinsed them off. I put the strainer back and repeated the process with the green grapes. For the larger fruits I would do only 3 or four at a time. Oranges, apples and lemons I just took out with my hands and rinsed.
After I was done I cleaned the parts and set to dry. The brush was still very much intact and seems like it might be for quite some time. The produce was clean and ready to eat.
The water was pretty gross after washing. I think produce gets dirtier than we even imagine it is but I feel like it is safer to eat well washed produce than just do a quick rinse through water.
